Scorpio, could you please elaborate on what you mean regarding Jennifer Hudson's loyality, personality and integrity? What do you know that you aren't saying? Granted this isn't a good time to get into all of that with the tragedy that struck her family. Still I'm curious since you've made this statement. I haven't heard anything, but I don't follow her closely.
Not to get to deep into it (I don't want to derail the thread), she was engaged to a man by the name of James Peyton who was an electrical engineering student working as a janitor to pay for classes (I think). They were "childhood sweethearts". Anyway, he encouraged her to go to American Idol, stood by when things got rough, and basically did everything he could to be there for her. Well, she wins, gets an Oscar, then breaks off the engagement to him to become engaged to some reality TV show contestant. Pardon me, I just think its low to dump someone who's genuinely been there for you (male or female) once you've "arrived".

Philnation, could it be that your cultural/historical DNA causes you to desire the heavy, dark, large breasted black woman, a possible modern symbol that satiates your craving for 'mammie'?
Hmmm, interesting and thought provoking comment Shepherd. But man, you got it like that?! I mean if I had made this comment (based on my past encounters), or perhaps any other woman on this forum, this poster would have been buzzing all around my post like an angry little gnat on steroids posting any and everything no matter how illogical just as long as he got a word in. You post this and....nothing. Absolutely no response. I'm amazed at the effect of THE SHEPHERD.

Oh yeah, that's right I do seem to recall early on that she mentioned a James Peyton in an interview that I ran across some time ago. I can't recall the magazine. I see what you mean Scorpio.

You post this and....nothing. Absolutely no response. Devineone, Philnation has been on this board for quite some time. I generally didn't interact with him. Not because I didn't like him, but because I came to this board specifically to interact with black people. Now, I don't have a problem with Philnation being a member of this board. We've have a few white members, and when I first joined there was an Asian female on the board with I interacted extensively with. However, I do question the motivations of non-black members on this board. A couple of years back (2006?) Philnation made a comment about in a thread about it being a good time for openness and dialogue between the races. So, I invited him to be a pioneer and begin this dialogue by explaining to US, this board, why he desires so much to be here, what he gets from this site, his off-board interactions with black people, his reasons for being so fascinated with black folks, whether he dates black women, why he does or doesn't date black women, etc, etc... I offered him quid pro quo, I told him he could feel free to ask me anything regarding race that he wanted and I'd openly answer. I even offered to go first if it made him feel more comfortable. However, he declined. So, everytime he leaves an opening and I happen to read it, I remind him that there are still plenty of inquiring minds that want to know his reasons for being so drawn to black folks and a black message board. He'll never do it. Why? Cowardice, spite, the Palin syndrome (an aversion to tough questions), whatever the reason, the issue will not go away. How could it? Devineone, did I tell you that you are my most favorite poster?

I started posting in Feb and assumed that everyone on the boards were people of color of some sort. I didn't know until a few months in and after reading some old posts that this wasn't the case. Those old posts have disappeared off the site now mores the pity. Still I wouldn't be interested in going to an all white thread and being the lone black poster there so I wonder too. I guess whatever makes one happy.

ITA with your comments about attractiveness is a socialized and stereotypical concept that is heavily influenced by what men and women see on television and in film. I remember when Dreamgirls, was being promoted. All I heard was talk about Beyonce, and how this would be her definitive role, that she would be nominated for an Oscar as best actress. She was the one that was making the rounds to promote the movie along with Jamie Fox. (I do realize that this makes business sense as they are two big stars and they would be the ones to generate more buzz). Still it wouldn’t have hurt to have the other leads there promoting extensively as well. I heard more talk about her before the film released and shortly after its release than I did about any of the other two female leads Anika Noni Rose and Jennifer Hudson.
*sniff sniff* Iono DO,. .I'm detecting a lil Beyonce hate in that post.. What you mean all you heard about was Beyonce when Dreamgirls was coming out? You dayum right, didn't no one else know them other broads before the movie.- LMAO.. You promote the stars. Maybe because everywhere you look Beyonce, Halle and other women who look similar are everywhere and guys are socialized to hold this narrow definition of beauty as the standard by which other women are measured. I’ve known guys who would pass over a plain modestly attractive woman who is beautiful inside and out because they are looking for that film/television model look.
Or maybe what you consider attractive by your standards isn't what some or most men consider attractive by their standards. Might not have anything to do with a film/televsion look. You act like every man is married to Naomi Campbell or some ish.. - LOL ----- @ Phil.. Man, u crazy... Beyonce better.. All of them are cute in the face but B's body is ridic.. c'mon yo..... http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00391/Beyonce_Knowles_200_391180a.jpg

No I don't act like every guy is married to a model. I know this is not the case, perhaps you think that. LOL, I don't have to "hate on Beyonce" as you put it to post comments about what I observed happening in the media regarding how they promoted that movie.

HAHA!!! All of that was a round about way to hate.. LOL Beyonce was the only star @ the time of the movie. It makes no sense to market folx that people barely know. If you really know this there is no point in bringing it up other than to point out why other folx should get more shine. She winning.. haters mad.. http://i.a.cnn.net/si/features/2007_swimsuit/images/photos/07_beyonce_10.jpg

If I wanted to "hate on someone" I don't have to go round about to do it, so stop judging me by the way you think. If you choose to interpret the comments I made on how the media promoted dreamgirls to mean me hating on her, then that's the way YOU want to think, not me. Beyonce was not the only star at the time of the movie early on. Eddie Murphy and Jamie Fox were stars as well. Of the leading ladies yes she was the biggest star but I still say it wouldn't have taken any shine off her star if producers behind the film promoted the other female leads extensively as well right along side her. But just why couldn't they promote the three black ladies in the film early on extensively? Hollywood always seem to "gatekeep" when it comes to promoting black actors. While there is room for promoting many white stars at the same time, they seem to always narrow in on a few black stars at a time and promote them. When it comes to black actors, only so many get media play at a time.

And this is Beyonce on vacation in Bermuda just this month. I think she looks great. Of course not the same as when she's on the red carpet but she's on vacation and relaxing. http://www.411mania.com/music/news/87007Janet Jackson's body also looks ridiculous when she's on top of her game and her body is primed and ready for her concerts, but when she isn't performing, she does let herself go a bit. Still these stars are in such great shape that even when they let themselves go, they still look way better than most everyone else. I think Serena and Venus Williams have ridiculous bodies. Those black women women on the Olympic track and field team this summer in the US and Jamaica had some amazing bodies!! I've heard Beyonce is slated to play Etta James in an upcoming film Cadillac Records. I think she may have already started filming. it seems movie biopics are the thing. I'm looking forward to Don Cheadle playing Miles. I've read that he plays sax in real life. I'm also looking forward to seeing Jessie Martin portray Marvin Gaye in the movie Sexual Healing

You right, Eddie & Jamie were also big stars who weren't marketed as heavily. The thing is you weren't originally complaining about that. HAHAHA!! In fact, the only folx I heard "complaining" about how Beyonce was being promoted & trying to make such a point of everyone else's performance in the movie were black women. Hmmmmm... I wonder why? It's such a non conversation it's amazing and if it wasn't Beyonce, no one would be that critical. Man, that ain't nothing but hate weakly disguised as support for other performers.. - LMAO... @ Phil..

Legacy Grow up, mature mentally and emotionally and then maybe I might take what you say a little seriously. Until then, you just continue to display childish high school like mentality in my book. What you view as "complaining", I say I'm stating a point. You're attempting to impose "your" judgement on my statement of an observable fact' about dreamgirls not promoting all three lady leads extensively All I heard was talk about Beyonce, and how this would be her definitive role, that she would be nominated for an Oscar as best actress. You read "hate" out of this statement I made? Man you're the one with the issues. You can't even tell what is a discussion and statment of fact and opinion. To you this statement is called "hating". Such a strong sentiment for what I've said. You're the one with the problem since you read " hate" from what I posted. This tells me more about where you're coming from in how you're choosing to interpret what I've stated. You come from a position of hating but you're tyring to flip the script and say that's where I'm coming from because your view is clouded. You're so filled with "hate' yourself that's all you're able to see. You can't be objective, you can't engage in discussion and see differing points of view. You're too filled with hate. In a situation like this, it is futile to defend myself because you will believe own interpretation of what you think. I know what I said, and I know my motivation behind what I've said far better than you do because after all I'm the author of my own thoughts. Where the heck do you get off trying to jump inside my head and tell me what "I" meant". I mean that's a bit arrogant now. The fact that you can't accept that I can have an opinion about what I observed about how the media promoted Dreamgirls without 'hating' on Beyonce, just shows that in your way of thinking, people can't have a discussion about something, critique it, bring up differing points, without either, liking or disliking that person. In your mind, it has to be "personal". This shows that you lack the understanding of discussion, sharing ideas, viewpoints or anything related to conversation/debating and you can't engage in discussions without you taking it personally and since you think that way, you impose your thinking on others. Your view is actually quite juvenile. It's the way kids think. If you say something I don't like, then I'm going to take it to mean that you must not like me/she/it. That's how my 8 year old niece acts. Now initially I didn't get into the whys and wherefores into my thoughts about what I thought motivated Hollywood when I first posted, I only stated what I observed the producers of that film doing. However subsequent posts responding to you lead me to further delve into what was also on my mind as well just not initially posted. But then you're telepathic and you would know this because you can read my mind. . Media bombards us with far more images of the Beyonces, Halle Berry's and others who look similiar than they do of women of color who don't necessarily look like them. I've already commented extensively on this topic in a thread that SC started How many more movies do I have to see...Substitute Beyonce's name with Halle, or Thandie Newton, or any of the other leading black stars who are made up to look more Euro and my point will still remain the same. But according to your thinking, I'd be hating on all of these other women I've mentioned too. Stop trying to use silly childish tactics to make your non-existent point that you've created in your own mind.

BTW, what is your motivation for continuing to harp about it when Phil's already answered who he likes? Are you"mocking" his answer by continuing to post links of Beyonce as if he has to be blind or something for preferring J. Hudson over Beyonce? (I'm assuming they're Beyonce images since the first one was and I didn't see the others). I'm sure he is already well aware of what Beyonce looks like. People like who they like and since Phil isn't telling the reason behind his choice, just leave it at that. Continuing to send Beyonce images won't change that, so what's your point in doing it? Why aren't you calling out The Shepherd, he said he liked Anika Noni Rose, he didn't mention Beyonce either? If you're going to be up in threads trying to tell other people about what you think their motivation is behind their posts, you need to check your own behavior.
