My theory is (in addition to loss of interest or job limitations) that people with overbearing or dominating personalities ran a lot of members off. Discussion with the occasional argument is fine but nobody wants to log in to WWIII daily.

I agree.  Even I grew tired of the daily arguments and pettyness (and having to over-moderate what should have been free-flowing discussions).  (I miss InsaneDrNasty)!  LOL

Happy to have you back MzSheel... you were missed!  Kiss

Thanks, Ndgo (though I'm still working on the different spelling of your moniker!    Wink )

I can even remember specific arguments where afterward certain people never logged on again. Then you have certain old posters who log on as hidden. Like Dianaprince for example If I said i was going to pop her on the azz with an indian jones whip she would log on to tell me where to go and how to get there ROFLMAO!

Tigerlilly don't be such a doom monger.  This site will close down when I die and not a moment before.  So don't even worry about THAT.  It's been online since December 1997 and is my second child.

As Mz Sheel and Informed Investor pointed out, websites are cyclical.  People come and go, find new things to do with their time, maybe cycle back.  They get married, they have children that tie up their time, they get new jobs that take up their time, etc.  Life happens and people come and go.  It's been that way for the past 11 years.

I've been going through a lot of things myself - legal issues - which are not done yet and which are draining me emotionally and mentally.  So I haven't been as focused on site maintenance and development as I was last summer.  For example, I have a half-finished new template for a redesign.  Not sure when THAT is gonna happen!! lol

But I want everyone to know how much I appreciate the fact that you still pop in.  I think I'll create a  widget to put some of the latest thread titles on the home page and invite people to join the discussion forums.  I'll do that right now.

Welcome back Sheel!!  Smiley

And she had a good summation of things.  I've been on a few message boards over the years that had periods where they were full of activity, including ones where there might be a couple hundred posts in an hour, and also periods where there might be a single-digit number of posts in a month.  Once upon a time here, I believe the interracial forum was the most active, or not far behind for that title; now it's practically a dead zone oftentimes.

MzSheel's mention that many of us have been here 10+ years was quite a reminder - I was first on here in my final college days!  It's amazing to think it's been 10 years, and a lot has happened in that time.  I've even had the pleasure of meeting a few members over the years in person.  And over that time, I've joined and left quite a few message boards whose "shelf life", for lack of a better term, expired as far as I was concerned.

And MsH - I hope the legal issues and other matters you have get settled soon and in a positive manner.
