Why do so many people want to remain friends with their ex?  WTF is THAT?  Especially when you were never married and don't have children together that you need to civilly co-parent, why bother?  Why not just cut all ties and move on?

Am I the only one that sees no logic in trying to maintain a friendly relationship with someone I want to run over with my car?

IMO A friendship built on the ashes of a broken intimate relationship is not a place I’d want to put myself.  It’s like trying the relationship out again but with a different premise. Bad idea.  It also keeps you from moving forward emotionally.  I’ve been there and tried that and wouldn’t want to do that anymore.  I think, for some it’s a way to retain a hold of their past, their connection with that person because they aren’t fully over them.  But isn’t “friend” part of being a “boyfriend or a “girlfriend"?  If they didn’t get the “friend" part right when you were involved with them, what makes one think they’ll get it right now?  I grant there are some exceptions, but I would hazard a guess that statistically, the numbers are higher for unhappiness with people trying to maintain friendships with their ex’s.

That said, I have had contact with some of my ex's but I wouldn't say we were friends in each other's pockets.  I played a wedding for my ex-fiance years ago and long after we had broken up.  I occasionally work with a musician I used to date years ago from time to time and I get a Christmas card every year from an ex I dated a few years ago, but that's all the contact we have.  We've all moved on emotionally and I'm ok with my infrequent intermittent  contact with some of my exes.

No you are not the only one....I am friends with NONE OF MY EX'S....they are EX's for a reason...

A lot of times people talk that let's be friends business as a way of keeping a connection with that other person...... Roll Eyes

People need to let nature take it's course.....one cann't be friends with an ex lover right after the relationship is over........give it a few years then maybe MAYBE you all can be on friendly terms but normally by that time I don't care if they live or die........

LOL!  No, I never got this either.  People say this to be "nice" or whatever but I thinnk it is best to break all ties.  Move on already.  A person should have other people in the "friendship" category.
