The sound of joyous laughter lifts me up.

A comment made by a poster, "We do everything around here the old fashioned way" got me to thinking what things do I do that could be considered 'old fashioned'?  In this day and age of instantaneous convenience, are there any hobbies, skills, practices or activities that I do that are considered old fashioned?  Things that require time and effort, you know like how they did it back in the day?

What thing(s) do you do that could be considered 'The old fashioned way' of doing things?

What/how do feel when you do things the old fashioned way?

1.When I bake, I do it the old fashioned way, I use the plain flower and I sift the flower, I make my own crust for my pies, rolling the dough out with the heavy rolling pin.  I use the crisco shortening on the rare occasions that I make biscuits. LOL (no canned biscuits here)  Baking makes me feel good and I always share the treats.  It's soothing rolling and kneading the dough.

2.  I'm learning the art of how to 'piece quilts' something my grandmother did quite well.
(this is frustrating right now but I'll keep trying, I don't know if I have the patience to hand sew a big quilt but I'll start off with something small, sewing was never my thing which is a shame because my grandmother was so good at it.  I still have clothes she's sewn for me today along with one of her full sized hand made quilts.

3.  I have a couple of potted tomato and bell pepper plants growing.
(I actually love this.  I thought I'd never hear myself say I miss raising veggies, having grown up on a small working farm in the south, but this is the most enjoyable of all.  I use all my tomatoes in salad, but maybe I'll learn to can them.

4.  Occasionally I still actually write and mail a letters and cards off to friends instead of email.
I enjoy this and so do the people who get them.
