Tragic circumstances in Haiti. Man's only predator has struck again.

Does anyone remember the name of the guy who used to post on here who was a Haitian immigrant? Well, he might have been born in the USA but his parents were born in Haiti. I don't remember which it was, and I cannot remember his name.  Huh

By the way, what has happened to our site? I remember when something like this would happen before and just like family we'd all be here talking about it and comforting each other. Oh how things have fallen so far...

First, my prayers continue to go out to the people of Haiti esp. those still trapped in the rubble.

Yeah Shep. Long gone are the days when you would rip me a new one (or at least try to) on my Malcolm X thread.  Grin

I can't help but see similarities, particularly in media coverage, between this tragedy and the holocaust caused in part by Hurricane Katrina. From the "help is on the way from your only heroes" messages of our government to the false stories of young men running through the capital weilding machetes (remember the false reports of shootings and child rapes at the Superdome in New Orleans?).

We as African people throughout the diaspora must prepare ourselves for disasters like these. Self-sufficiency is no longer an option.

Really? How are you envisioning that dream becoming reality? How can the majority of your 'diaspora' who cant even prepare themselves to live in civilized humane conditions under 'normal' circumstances, stand any chance of being prepared for any disaster that nature or man decide to send their way?

Was anyone praying for Haitians during the last few decades while  they have been living in the most poverty stricken country in the western hemisphere?...while they've been eating dirt...literally..in a tropical country that has almost no vegetation ramaining? Obviously, PRAYERS aint what they need.

While I agree with your assessment of our people, it IS being done albeit on small scales around the world. It starts with a conscious few who are prepared to think, plan and do the work. Others will either complain about whats not being done, do nothing at all or both.

I have been praying for them and ALL African peoples oppressed throughout this world since I became conscious enough to do so (since considering myself a ‘Panafrican’ 8 years ago). And had you read my numerous posts throughout the years you would know that I do more than pray. But for ME it starts with a spiritual foundation. A strong faith that I was put on this Earth for a calling that I have answered. I never said prayers alone would solve the problem of ANY Africans as it would certainly be foolish to think such. Again, it STARTS with prayer and then we work to ensure that should a “natural” disaster strike, whether it be in Haiti or New Orleans, our people are better prepared to deal with the aftermath as well as the natural disaster itself.

Man's only predator has struck again.
What does that mean?

It is just a statement recognizing that the only natural predator that man (humankind) has is NATURE. There is no larger or subliminal meaning to the statement, just an acknowledgment the only thing capable of killing humankind on a mass scale is NATURE. Well, humankind does it with technology, but man's only real predator is nature. And the earthquake is just another example.

The statement was only a reference to the profound respect that man must have for nature, it's only predator. That's all. Just as Mt. Vesuvius killed thousands, the 2004 Tsunami killed thousands, 2005's Hurricane Katrina killed about 2,000, now this 2010 earthquake has killed many thousands.

I'm not implying that Nature is a conscious predator, just stating that it is a predator. No need for an argument here... is it?

By the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you're having a good beginning to your year, I remember what time it is.
