What is the true meaning of the words I’m sorry?

Dear Ms. HeartBeat:
Do you know the meaning of the words, “I’m sorry?” Can you explain to me why so many people are clueless?

Signed,
Sorry is as Sorry Does

Ms. HeartBeat Responds:
Yeah, I do know the meaning.  What I also know that you don’t seem to is that those two words don’t mean squat and are a waste of time.

When we did whatever we did, we did it because we wanted to do it. We didn’t care who it hurt or why they might not like it. We were only focused on ourselves. So if someone DID get hurt, whether intentionally or inadvertently, there is nothing to be sorry about. We did what we wanted to do, when we wanted to do it, the way we wanted to do it. Don’t even bother saying how sorry you are, because what you really mean is you are sorry you got caught and now have to deal with the accusatory tone and the emotions of the person you are apologizing to.
That is why I never say I’m sorry. It would be a lie because I’m NOT sorry. I did it because I wanted to do it. I said it because I wanted to say it. Live with it.

And truly, that is the way most people feel.
